Over the past decade ,beekeepers in key agricultural economies experienced annual hive losses of 30 percent or more. 2012 was the worst year to date, with beekeepers in the U.S. reporting losses of 40 to 50 percent and higher. The global decline of bee populations posses a threat to food sources because bees are responsible for pollinating approximately a third of agricultural crops.
